Professionalization

The working world of artists has changed a lot in recent years. In response to this, the HFBK wants to equip its graduate students with knowledge and skills that will help them to achieve a self-confident professional position in the art field. The program is aimed in particular at fine artists and is designed to impart the professional knowledge necessary for the complex requirements of a self-employed artistic activity. The aim is to be able to act in the art field in an informed and self-confident manner and thus to make the transition from studies to professional life smoother.

The free offer - information events, lectures, workshops and consultation appointments - is aimed at students in their final year as well as graduate students (students in the master's program, doctoral candidates and alumni) of the HFBK up to 5 years after their studies.

Due to the corona pandemic, almost all sessions within the framework of the professionalization program at the HFBK Hamburg will be offered online in the summer semester 2020. The events will take place online on the given dates - the workshops with a limited number of participants, so please note the information on prior registration. The links for the respective web conference rooms will be published on the HFBK homepage and on the Instagram account of the HFBK Hamburg (@hfbkhamburg) shortly before the events.

HFBK Graduate Survey

Studying art - and what comes next? The clichéd images stand their ground: Those who have studied art either become taxi drivers, work in a bar or marry rich. But only very few people could really live from art – especially in times of global crises. The HFBK Hamburg wanted to know more about this and commissioned the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Hamburg to conduct a broad-based survey of its graduates from the last 15 years.

How political is Social Design?

Social Design, as its own claim is often formulated, wants to address social grievances and ideally change them. Therefore, it sees itself as critical of society – and at the same time optimizes the existing. So what is the political dimension of Social Design – is it a motor for change or does it contribute to stabilizing and normalizing existing injustices?

Annual Exhibition 2020 at the HFBK

The HFBK’s traditional annual exhibition („Jahresausstellung“) opens in February every year. For three days the students – from first-years to post-graduates – present a broad spectrum of their current work and projects from all the different departments. All classrooms, studios and halls in the building are used. Interested visitors are cordially invited to gain an impression of the art currently being created at the HFBK.
